DURHAM SCHOOL SERVICES SCHOOL BUS DRIVER WINS SOUTH CAROLINA BUS ROADEO COMPETITION

Durham School Services bus driver Albert Black placed first in the South Carolina State Bus Roadeo competition held in Columbia this month.

This is the first time Durham, a leader in school transportation, has won this competition in South Carolina.  Thirty-eight drivers were competing for first place.  Black has been a school bus driver for 10 years serving the Beaufort County school district.  He will compete at the international competition this summer.

“School bus drivers are among the most highly trained drivers on the road today,” said Gary Bradley, general manager for Durham’s Beaufort facility.  “Albert showcased his impecable driving skills and his commitment to safe vehicle operation.  We are happy to have him on our team here at Durham.”

The state-wide competition for South Carolina school bus drivers consisted of a pre-trip inspection and a road course comprised of over ten obstacles, including weaving in and out of cones, diminishing clearance and parallel parking.

“It’s wonderful to have a veteran driver as skilled as Mr. Black on our team,” said Superintendent Jeff Moss.  “The outstanding ability he demonstrated at this year’s competition will help keep our students safe, and he’s also a great role model for other drivers.”
